Garment Making

Its a course tailored for those who wish to have a career in Fashion and Design. A Trainee is able do any tailoring job and dress making. Tailoring is the technology of making the clothes meant for men e.g. Trousers and suites while dress making is for making the clothes meant for women e.g. dresses, blouses, skirts etc. very professionals tutors and trainers who are specialists in this field have been employed to do the training. After the training the students can get employed or do self-employment. There is also a production unit whereby the students make the school uniforms, overalls and dust coats.

1. GARMENT MAKING ARTISAN COURSE

This course is tested and examined by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC). A trainee who undergoes this course and attain its certificate can further his/her skills to craft level, Diploma & Degree levels. The course takes two years and the trainees are also trained Business Skills, Technical Drawing, Science, Mathematics and Entrepreneurship which is referred as support subject.

QUALIFICATIONS

Anyone who has a KCSE or KCPE certificate can join this course and the KNEC certificates are used in registration for the Artisan final exam.

2. TAILORING AND DRESSMAKING III

This is a course that takes two years. At the end of the first year; a trainee is able to do any Garment making job. This course is examined by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) and the exam it’s done at the end of the year i.e. November /December series. For anyone who has KCSE, KCPE and school dropouts who are able to read and write can do this course. The good news about this course is that even for those who can’t read or write can be taught how to sew and do Tailoring and Dress Making Jobs.

3. TAILORING AND DRESSMAKING II AND I

For those who wish to further their studies and a career in Tailoring and Dressmaking can join these courses. Anyone who possesses a Grade III certificate with a pass can join Grade II course and those who passed Grade II can join Grade I course respectively. Both of these courses i.e Grade II and I are done in six months and they can be trained in both Full time and Part time basis. Part time is 10:00AM – 12 NOON and 2:00PM – 4:00PM. Both are examined by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA). And these course are done on July /August Exam series.
